You’re contemplating on whether or not you should buy or rent. You’ve spoken to family, friends, colleagues but still find yourself unsure as to which route to take. Many of them have given you some compelling reasons to choose one over the other, but with all the differing opinions you just don’t know what’s best for you. Well, through my experience as a Realtor, I’ve come up with 3 simple reasons why you should rent. Or not. Let’s begin!
1. You Plan To Move Within A Year
Most persons looking to become homeowners are buying a home with a view of staying anywhere from 3 to 5 years minimum. Anything less than that and most people will choose to rent. Why? Simply put, it’s just easier. The process of homeownership can be stressful at times and many just feel that’s it’s not worth it to go through all of that to only occupy a place for a year or less. However, as an investor, I do have a compelling argument against this line of thinking, but I’ll save that for another article.
2. You Don’t Want To Be Responsible For A Home
When renting your home, you’re pretty much responsible for nothing. Besides paying rent and utilities, very seldom does a tenant have to worry about anything else. If the fridge breaks, it’s not your problem. If the A/C stops working, just call the landlord. Just pay your rent and lock up when you leave. However, as a homeowner, you are responsible for all of these things. If this is something that you just do not want to deal with under any circumstances, then maybe life as a tenant is better suited for you.
3. You Do Not Qualify For a Mortgage
There are some who may be reading this article and actually want to become homeowners. However, there’s just one obstacle in the way…You do not qualify for a mortgage. You also don’t have a rich uncle, friend, or parents. You’ve exhausted every avenue to no avail. Well, I first want to commend you for the effort you put into achieving your goal of homeownership. I also want to let you know that it isn’t over. YOU WILL reach your goal of homeownership. It just may take a little more time. So use this opportunity to learn what is needed to become qualified and then…BECOME QUALIFIED! I promise you it’s just that simple. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to get it. If you make homeownership a priority, you WILL make it happen!
